Refrigeration Safety at Gustav Lorentzen 2018

In a sign that the interest for the use of flammable refrigerants is on the rise, the LIFE FRONT project was extensively presented last week at the Polytechnic University of Valencia, in Spain.

At the 13th IIR Gustav Lorentzen Conference on Natural Refrigerants (18-20 June), project leader shecco organised a booth with flyers and additional material about the activities of the project. Representatives from other partner institutions were at the booth during the coffee breaks to answer all the questions of interested participants.

Furthermore, on 19 June, a Refrigeration Safety session was held. Alongside carbon dioxide and ammonia, hydrocarbons had a central role in the discussion.

Holger König (Ref-Tech) and Niels Vestergaard (Danfoss) explained the main issues and the reasons behind some recent accidents and how to avoid them. From the session it emerged that a revision of standards is necessary to allow new technologies for environmentally-friendly refrigerants to safely enter the market. Daniel Colbourne (Re-Phridge) and Dario Belluomini (shecco) attended the session and presented some of the project activities.

Remarkably, the project was also mentioned by Björn Palm (KTH) during his keynote speech on 20 June, explaining how a clear regulation is key for a safe use of refrigerants.
